American Institute of Dermatology, P.A.

Founded in 1998, American Institute of Dermatology, P.A. is Central Florida's leading provider in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgery of the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes.

We are trained in the early detection of potentially dangerous skin cancers, and use the most effective treatments available, catering to the individual needs of each patient.

The practice offers a variety of skin beautification and anti-aging treatments which include peels, fillers, and carries a line of skin care products and prescription medications.

DARRIN A. ROTMAN, M.D.

Darrin A. Rotman M.D. is a Board-Certified Dermatologist and Mohs Surgeon. He is also the founder of American Institute of Dermatology, P.A and has served the Central Florida community diligently for over twenty years. 

Dr. Rotman graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Baccalaureate of Science degree in 1988 and went on to receive a Medical Doctor degree with honors from University of Miami School of Medicine in 1992. In 1996, he graduated from the Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery Residency at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital. He founded American Institute of Dermatology in 1998.

Dr. Rotman is an active participant and member of medical societies that continue consistently extending and advancing his medical education and cutting-edge techniques in the delivery of his profession. These societies include American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and the American Society for Mohs Surgery (ASMS). He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology (ABD) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). 


Dr. Rotman's interests and abilities allow him to provide a myriad of skin care services including cancer treatments, Mohs Surgery, and the diagnosis and treatment of rashes, growths, and skin beautification techniques for all patients, from infants to geriatric patients.

SHURUN ZHAO, M.D.

Shurun Zhao, M.D. is Board-Certified physician who has been with American Institute of Dermatology, P.A. since 2010.

 

A Medical Doctor and Neuroscience Program graduate of China Medical University in Shenyang, China, Dr. Zhao went on to complete his residency in Louisiana State University Health Science Center and his fellowship in Tulane University Health Science Center, both in New Orleans.

 

Dr. Zhao also worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Instructor at Louisiana State University Department of Neurosurgery and Neuroscience Center of Excellence. Additionally, he went on to complete a Dermatopathology Fellowship in Tulane University Health Science Center.

 

Not only a physician, but also a published author, Dr. Zhao has co-authored several articles in peer reviewed journals.

AKHIL GUPTA, D.O.

Dr. Akhil Gupta is a double board-certified dermatologist and MOHS surgeon, having graduated from Nova Southeastern University School of Osteopathic Medicine. His medical journey includes an internship, residency, and specialized MOHS and Cosmetic Fellowship, all completed at Larkin Community Hospital. These experiences shaped his expertise in surgical procedures and patient care. 

As a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Dr. Gupta actively contributes to research and publications. He provides a hands-on approach, ensuring each patient receives consistent, knowledgeable care from the initial consultation through treatment completion. Dr. Gupta emphasizes direct communication, offering patients convenient access to him. He specializes in surgical dermatology with expertise in MOHS surgery. 

Dr. Gupta is a South Florida native with a deep connection to the community. He holds degrees from Pine Crest High School, the University of Iowa, and a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Florida Atlantic University. Beyond his practice, he is committed to giving back to the community through volunteer work, mentoring future medical professionals, and participating in health fairs and local charity events. In his personal life, Dr. Gupta is a devoted husband and father, cherishing time with his family and understanding the importance of a healthy community that fosters well-being beyond the clinic walls. He also speaks English, Spanish, and Hindi.

ANA CAROCHA JALKH, M.D.

Ana Jalkh, M.D., is a board-certified physician with more than a decade of professional experience in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Jalkh earned her medical degree from Estácio de Sá University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2007 and went on to complete a three-year dermatology residency earning board certification through the Brazilian Society of Dermatology in 2011. She practiced for twelve years in Rio de Janeiro as a general practitioner and dermatologist, providing medical evaluations, surgical and cosmetic procedures before coming to the United States and completing a family medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa.

Dr. Ana Jalkh is a respected physician dedicated to providing exceptional care to her patients. Her combined background in family medicine and dermatology gives Dr. Jalkh a distinctive perspective on the connection between skin health and overall well-being. With her extensive medical training and compassionate approach, Dr. Jalkh offers personalized dermatologic solutions tailored to each patient's unique needs. Fluent in English and Portuguese, Dr. Jalkh prioritizes building trusting relationships and fostering open communication. Her international experience, multidisciplinary training, and broad clinical background allow her to serve patients from diverse communities with professionalism and careful attention to their concerns.

JULIANNA ROBINSON, M.D.

Julianna Robinson, M.D., earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George's University School of Medicine, where she received the Geoffrey H. Bourne Scholarship for Exceptional Students. Prior to these studies, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with honors from Nova Southeastern University.

After medical school, Dr. Robinson completed two years of residency in internal medicine at HCA Florida Citrus Hospital in Inverness, FL. During this time, she managed complex inpatient and outpatient cases with increasing autonomy and served as a supervising senior resident for junior physicians. Her training strengthened her diagnostic reasoning, clinical judgment, and ability to collaborate across specialties.

Dr. Robinson has completed certification training in cosmetic injectables, including Botox and dermal fillers, as well as focused dermatology education through programs offered by the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Her training includes the evaluation and management of common skin conditions, recognition of skin cancers, biopsy and excision selection and techniques, suturing, and wound care. Dr. Robinson has  also coauthored peer-reviewed research published in the medical journal CNS Spectrums and holds certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. 

​Recognized for her interpersonal skills and collaborative approach, Dr. Robinson is committed to helping patients feel heard, respected, and well informed.

JULIE L. IELLIMO, P.A.-C.

Julie L. Iellimo, P.A.-C. is a Certified Physician Assistant who has been serving the Central Florida community with American Institute of Dermatology, P.A. for the past 15 years.


Julie graduated with a Baccalaureate degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from Florida Gulf Coast University, a Baccalaureate of Science degree in Physician Assistant from Nova Southeastern University, and a Masters degree in Medical Science, also from Nova Southeastern University. In addition, Julie gained two years of experience in Physical Therapy and Family Medicine in South Florida prior to joining AIOD in 2006.


Her clinical rotations in Orthopedics, Surgery, Pediatrics, OBGYN, Family, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Dermatology have also allowed her medical skills to grow and thrive by associating the skin with one’s general health and expand her overall medical understanding of the inner workings of the human body. 


Ms. Iellimo also maintains membership with the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA) to continue advancing her healthcare education. 


Julie’s education, background, and collaboration of over 15 years with Board Certified Dermatologist Darrin A. Rotman, M.D. have allowed her to become adept in the management of Dermatology. She can extend the abilities of Dr. Rotman by caring for the skin needs of patients of all ages.

CATELIN COLATO, P.A.-C.

Catelin Colato, P.A.-C. is a certified Physician Assistant who received her Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from South University in Tampa, Florida. Prior to these studies, she obtained with honors a Baccalaureate of Science in Health Sciences from the University of Central Florida.​

During her education, Ms. Colato completed clinical rotations in Dermatology and Cosmetic Dermatology, Family Medicine, General Surgery, and Pediatrics. Catelin also brings over experience in multiple aesthetic services including Botox, lip flip and dermal filler injections.

Ms. Colato maintains membership with the American Academy of Physicians Assistants (AAPA) and Florida Academy of Physicians Assistants (FAPA) to continue her commitment to education in healthcare.

Catelin is also fluent in Spanish, which allows her to communicate effectively with a broader range of patients. Ms. Colato strives to help her patients feel and look their best by offering the most effective treatments available tailored to the individual.

ALICIA DOAN, P.A.-C.

Alicia Doan, P.A.-C. is a board-certified Physician Assistant with focused experience in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Florida International University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of South Florida

Alicia maintains membership with the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA) and the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to continue her commitment to education in healthcare. She is also certified in advanced cardiovascular (ACLS) and basic life support (BLS).

Ms. Doan provides comprehensive dermatologic care for patients of all ages with experience diagnosing and treating conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, pigmented lesions, and skin cancers. Alicia is known for her strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and commitment to helping patients feel confident in their skin. She is bilingual in English and Vietnamese and also speaks basic medical Spanish.
